Devotional – God needs You to Grow and help His Kingdom

Devotional: Unity and Growth in the Body of Christ Growth of Gods Kingdom! – chrisaomministries

Scripture: Ephesians 4:13-16 (NIV)

“Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”

Reflection:

In Ephesians, Paul paints a vivid picture of the church as the body of Christ, where every part, no matter how small, has a vital role.

The passage speaks directly to the purpose each person has within God’s kingdom:

  1. Unity in Faith and Knowledge: Paul envisions a church where all believers are united not just in belief but in understanding Christ fully. This unity is not about conformity in thought but a shared journey towards maturity in faith. Each person’s unique perspective and gifts contribute to this collective growth.
  2. Maturity and Stability: The maturity Paul speaks of is marked by stability against the “waves” of false teachings. Here, every member’s role is crucial. When we recognize our purpose, we help stabilize the community, ensuring it remains true to the teachings of Christ.
  3. Speaking Truth in Love: This is where personal purpose shines. Each of us is called to communicate in ways that promote growth. Whether you’re a teacher, a listener, or someone who provides support in less visible ways, your ministry of speaking truth in love helps the body grow.
  4. Each Part Doing Its Work: This is perhaps the most direct affirmation of individual purpose. Like the parts of a body, each person’s role is uniquely important. You might be an encourager, a prayer warrior, an administrator, or someone who serves in acts of kindness. Your work, when aligned with the Spirit, helps the body to function and grow in love.

Application for Today:

  • Recognize Your Gift: Take time to reflect on how God has gifted you. Are you a connector, a teacher, a servant? How can you use your gifts to contribute to the church’s growth?
  • Engage in Community: In Tulsa, look for opportunities within your local church or community groups where you can serve. Whether it’s through a ministry program or simply being there for someone, your part matters.
  • Growth in Love: Aim to build up those around you. This might mean offering a listening ear, giving encouragement, or even challenging someone lovingly for their growth.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the unique purpose You’ve given me within Your kingdom. Help me to understand and embrace my role in the body of Christ, to work towards unity, maturity, and love. Guide me to speak truth in love, contributing to the health and growth of Your church. Amen.

This devotional reminds us that in God’s kingdom, there’s no role too small or insignificant. Each of us has a purpose, and when we fulfill it, we contribute to the collective strength and beauty of the body of Christ.
