Healing
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
The anointing, or appointing of the Holy Spirit, upon us as ministers of the gospel, is only God’s power, present to manifest His precious promises.
Healing, was promised, for everyone, long before Jesus came to the earth.
Is 53:4 ¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
He fulfilled that promise in His earthly ministry:
Matt 8: 16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
Matthew 9:35 ¶ And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
Now, healing is an established fact in heaven, backed up by Jesus own shed blood upon the cross, where He bore not only our sin, but also our sickness.
1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, the New is the Old Testament revealed.
Today, in our reading, we read:
John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: to the simple.
This was proclaimed by Jesus, before He went to the cross for both our sin, and sickness, and was a fulfillment of the account, where the people of God had sinned, and fiery serpents came into the camp, biting and killing many.
Num 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
So, we see that the people of God had sinned, and firey serpents were killing them. The people asked God and Moses to forgive them, and God sent healing to them. He told Moses to make a bronze serpent, lift it up upon a pole, and that those who looked upon it, should live.
So, the people in their pain and death had to do several things:
1. Realize they had sinned.
2. Cry out to God, and ask forgiveness and healing, in the presence of His minister, Moses.
3. Look upon the serpent upon the pole.
God is the same today!
James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
If you are sick today, you can do the same three things, and you will be healed:
1. Realize you have sinned.
2. Cry out to God, ask Him forgiveness, right here, right now, in my presence.
3. Look upon the cross of Jesus, where He bore your sin and sickness, and you will be healed.
1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
Let’s pray:
“Father, forgive me for going my own way, and not serving You. Help me. I look to the cross, where Jesus died for my sin and sickness, and I receive your forgiveness, and healing, NOW, in Your name I pray Lord Jesus, Amen’
