The Divine Order of Healing
James 5:
13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
As I was reading these verses one day, I saw healing a little differently. The words are a question: Is any sick among you?
The implication here is that there should not be any sick among us. God wants His people strong, vibrant, full of His life and power, serving Him victoriously. Kind of hard to feed the hungry, preach the gospel, go into all the world with His love, if we are sick. God wants us well.
So, now what? You are telling me God wants me well, but I’m sick. How do I get healed?
Let’s read these verses:
James 5: 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray.
Step 1:
If you you wake up sick.
James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray.
Pray. Problem is, in this instant, microwave, internet generation, we want everything now. There have been things I have had to pray about for years. God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him.
Step one, go to God in prayer. Not the drug store, the doctor, the medicine cabinet. God.
Step 2.
If you are not immediately healed, or there is an accident. Call for the elders of the church.
There are thousands of faith-filled men and women of God in the earth, that will happily pray the prayer of faith for your healing. Even if you do not think you know one. I’ll pray for you.
Let’s pray:
Father, I thank you for elders in the body of Christ who you have gifted with faith for my healing. Where I’ve sinned against you, please show me and forgive me. I set myself in agreement with the elders of my church, and by faith, I receive my healing, in Your name Lord Jesus.
Step 3: Call the doctor
If your healing is taking some time to manifest: Call the doctor – In certain circles, some ministers say: You just negated what you just prayed!
Yet, I know many spirit-filled wise medical professionals that God is using in healing the sick in the medical field. I am firmly convinced though that if people did step 1 and 2, the medical profession would have a lot less to do, for Jesus heals. Not merely medicates, improves your quality of life, gives you grace to accept, but heals! He is still the healer, the great physician, the one you need to accept as the presiding physician on your personal case.
Don’t leave your faith home when you go to the doctor, nor are you required to receive their report as the final report.
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
There is a report of the Lord, that eternally declares healing from heaven. We never deny the facts, but we may deny the diagnoses, when someone says: ‘This is a degenerative condition, and will only get worse and worse’ or ‘you only have three to six months to live’.
At that point, I’m disagreeing with their report! The facts of their diagnosis are true, scientifically, a particular medical condition may cause one to get worse and worse, if left alone, but we have not left it alone! We have invoked the mighty matchless name of Jesus, and brought the Creator of heaven and earth into our particular case.
When issued a death sentence, my faith in God is going to respond:
I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
No matter how gifted and educated, they are human: that’s why they call it their medical practice. They are still practicing, because no matter how good we are, God alone heals, and He still does miracles!
Let’s pray for our doctors:
‘Father God, my life is in Your hands, not the hand of any man. I pray for the doctors, medical practitioners, and my family as I walk with You in my healing. I ask You give them wisdom, strength, help, and counsel to help me get well and strong again. May I encourage them to walk closer to You, and may they see Your hand working on my particular case, for Your glory Lord Jesus, Amen.”
