The Greatest Need on Earth: Christian Laborers

The Greatest Need on Earth: Christian Laborers

Biblical Foundation:

  • Mark 6:34 – “And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.”
  • John 4:35 – “Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.”
  • Matthew 9:37-38 – “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.”

The Current State of Humanity:

Jesus’ compassion extends from His earthly ministry to today, where He observes from heaven the plight of humanity:

  • Heartache, poverty, starvation, wars, sickness, and spiritual desolation are rampant. The human condition without divine guidance is one of confusion and loss.
  • Matt 9:35 ¶ And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
    37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

The Role of Christian Ministries:

  • Teaching the Word of God: Just as Jesus taught, Christian ministries are called to educate people in Biblical Principles, offering Spiritual Guidance to navigate life’s challenges through the teachings of Christ.
  • Acts of Compassion: Following Jesus’ example, ministries should:
    • Heal the sick – providing medical aid and spiritual healing.
    • Feed the hungry – addressing both physical and spiritual hunger.
    • Visit prisoners – bringing justice, mercy, and hope.
    • Clothe the naked – providing for basic human needs.
    • Quench the thirsty – both literally with water and spiritually with the Gospel.

The Need for Laborers:

  • The call is not just for recognition of the suffering but for action. The work is vast, and the needs are overwhelming, requiring an army of laborers under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  • Every time I step out and do something for God, I discover that there is always much more to be done. I find myself thinking: ‘Am I the only one who sees these people’s needs? Why are not more people helping?

Then I realize that it is because people do not know the Word of God yet, and so are blindly going through life from crisis to crisis, calamity to calamity, with often no thought about their eternal purpose, and God’s plan for them.

Prayer for Laborers:

  • Prayer is pivotal:
    • “Father God, I have seen the brokenness of your people, and wept as I saw the horrible tragedies of injustice and pain these have caused. I would like to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Teach me, train me, help my life to make a difference. I cry out for laborers to be sent into your harvest fields, and like Isaiah, I hear the call, ‘Whom shall I send?’, even so Lord, ‘Here am I, send me’, I pray, in your name Lord Jesus, Amen.”

Involvement in Ministry:

  • AOMMinistries and similar organizations emphasize the need for active participation in Christian ministries. This involves personal commitment to living out these principles, being led by the Holy Spirit, and actively engaging in the harvest field of souls.

Conclusion:

The greatest need on earth is not just for resources or solutions but for Christian laborers who are willing to be sent into the harvest fields, driven by compassion, equipped with Biblical knowledge, and empowered by prayer. Every believer is called to this mission, to be part of the healing and restoration of the world through the love of Christ.
